Hello everybody,

We just wanted to let everyone know, and ask your prayers, for Joseph's surgery this morning. His surgery is scheduled at 7:30 AM at Brenner's Children's Hospital at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He is having his mitral valve replaced (most likely there is some slight chance that they might repair the valve instead of replacing it). This surgery is very serious, and we would covet everyone's prayers for this difficult time. I know that you haven't heard from us in a while, and we appreciate the support you've given over these years and the challenges they have held for our family.

I know that sometimes "a picture is worth a thousand words," so I've included two. These are two pictures of our Joseph at the beach in Norfolk, on the Navy Base.

Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think of. I don't know how up-to-date our email address book is, so bear with us on that.

We will be updating soon. You can check that site for updates, or feel free to call my office and speak to Sharon Lewis at 336-386-0846. This will be a 4-5 hour surgery, so around lunchtime today we will know how he is doing. As you can imagine, we are just very concerned for his comfort and safety. The doctors will be opening his chest. After this surgery, Joseph will be on blood thinners.

We know that our God is the Great Physician, and we are resting in His will as we have always done. That doesn't keep us from being afraid. ("What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" is one of our favorite verses at a time like this.) We know that this child came from God, and he is in His hand. That doesn't keep us from being concerned for His safety, and sometimes we are just concerned that God's will is not our will.

As you have always done, keep us in your prayers today. Thanks so much, and we will be in touch.
